Stock Trading Glossary - A

Action - This is commonly referred to as the price action of an equity.

 

Aftermarket - After regular stock market trading hours are over, there is what is called "after hours trading". Stocks and futures are traded after regular trading hours each trading day.

 

Ask - The Ask price of a stock is the price you pay to purchase the stock. The ask price is higher then the bid price.

 

Assets - All valuables owned by an individual or corporation that include securities, real estate, cash, notes, etc.

 

Asset Allocation - Asset allocation is the mix of various assets you have in your portfolio - ie, stocks, bonds, treasuries, etc.

 

At-The-Money - If the strike price of an option contract is equal to the current market price for that contract.

 

Average Daily Volume - To calculate ADV, you simply add up the volume for a particular time period of trading days, then divide the number of trading days by the total volume.
